I Love To Play The Kazoo

Arranged by Michael Mark

All alone of an afternoon, just me and my kazoo.
I love to play the kazoo.

Then I picked up my banjo and began to play it, too,
’Cause a banjo sounds terrific
When you play it with a kazoo.
I love to play the kazoo.

Then all at once I had a thought,
You know what I could do? I could add an oboe.
An oboe would sound lovely
With a banjo and a kazoo.
I love to play the kazoo.

Then I began to wonder what other sounds would do.
What if I added a flute?
Better yet, a clarinet and a funky old bassoon.
Playing away the afternoon, making a musical stew.
The fun begins when you add the winds
To a banjo and a kazoo.

If I can add the woodwinds, nothing is taboo.
French horns, trumpets and a slide trombone or two.
What a gas when you add the brass
The fun begins when you add the winds
To the violins, violas,
Give me cellos, and double bass.
I hear a harp, do you? Cymbals, chimes, timpani
Make a heck of a hullabaloo.
I’ll conduct the orchestra and tell ’em what to do,
Standing on the podium
With a banjo and a kazoo!

“Honey, what’s all that noise? Who’s in there with you?”
No one Mom, it’s just me, practicing my kazoo!
“That’s nice, dear, but it’s suppertime.
Wash up when you’re through.”

All alone of an afternoon
It’s amazing what you can do,
When you have an imagination and…
A banjo and a kazoo!
